He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Karner and Elizabeth Karner (Bickham); his wife Donna Karner; his brothers, Gerald, Wayne and Dennis Karner; and his stepfather Edward Weiss.

He is survived by: his sister Karen Michalak (Alan) of Caro, MI; his sister-in-law Linda Karner; and his stepchildren, Jimmy Miller, Robert Lynn II, Shelly Martindale (Denis) and Sherrie Woodin (Chris Beehler). He is also survived by 6 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
