He was predeceased by: his parents, Gloria Carter Shinn and Conrad Selwyn Shinn. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann; his son Erik David Shinn; his grandson Alex Shinn; his daughter-in-law Cindy Maldonado of Haslett, MI.; his aunt Jean Shinn Hart; and his cousins, Billie Pinckney and Mary Lawson Critz. He is also survived by extended family members and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to The Guardian Angel Historic Preservation Project in Manistee, MI, on which David worked and which was close to his heart.
