He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret Charlton; his parents, Regina Nowak and Jerome Nowak; and his sister Jeannie Bialik. He is survived by: his daughters, Kendra Nowak (Trish) of Elkhart, IN and Kristen Sytek (Darin); his grandchildren, Caden and Cohen; his sister Kimberly Bolles (Dan); his siblings' children, Delaney and Alexis; his stepdaughter Molly Thompson; his stepgrandchildren, Aidan and McKenna of Point Harbor, NC; his stepson Jared Thompson (Dayna); his stepgrandchildren, Max and Margaret of Bloomington, IN; his sister Janet Makowski of Manistee; his sister-in-law Susy Stein of Elizabeth City, NC; his close friends, Eugene Ax and Larry Krusniak; and his pet Maggie. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.
