He was predeceased by: his father Donald Koetje; and his in-laws, Dave and Vicki Larr. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Sue; his mother Eleanor Karsten; his birth mother Betty Simmons-Billings; his children, Jordan Hoekwater (Lisa), Ryan Hoekwater (Taylor), Dora Herweyer, Christopher and Jeremiah Koetje; his siblings, Sheryl Whitehouse (Jeffery), Lincoln VanDrie (Joy), Heidi Roberts (Joey), Jodi VanDrie, Linda Westdorp (Butch), Jon Larr, Larry Larr (Marcie), Kraig Karsten (Kim), Kim Curtis (Matt) and Randy Karsten (Elizabeth); and his father-in-law Les VanDrie (Carol). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial donations be made to the Veterans serving Veterans Park of Cadillac.
