He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Herman Gernaat and Minnie Gernaat (Borgman); his wife Karen Gernaat (Laughlin) of McBain; his children, Brad Gernaat (Lori) of McBain, Kenda Gilde (Phil) of McBain, Randy Gernaat of New York and Gregg Gernaat of McBain; his sister Karen Mentel (Tom); his in-laws, Sharon Gernaat of McBain, Dale Alferink of Grandville, Kathy Gernaat of McBain, Daryle Laughlin (Louise) of Marion and Carol Niver of Marion; his parents-in-law, George and Marjorie Laughlin; his siblings, Bud Gernaat, Jay Gernaat, Gladys Alferink, Gerry Gernaat and Don Niver; and his grandson Justin Gernaat. He was also cherished by grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
