He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Schmitt and Wilma Schmitt Sr. (Hartman). He is survived by: his wife Marie Sandra "Sandy" Schmitt (Arndt); his daughter Mary Elizabeth Shively (Douglas); his granddaughters, Jessica Sanford (Luke), Amanda Rogers (Robert) and Alicia Cortez (Joe); and his sibling's children, Laura Edall, Morris Johnson, Rick, Donna Watson and Theresa Smith.
