We are sad to announce that on December 4, 2025, at the age of 80, James Patrick McElligott (Monroe, Michigan), born in Charleston, South Carolina passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael L. McElligott and Elizabeth A. McElligott (Leake); and his siblings, William, Mickey, Rose and Mary Mayes.
He is survived by: his children, Reid Sullivan McElligott of Temperance and Spring Disney; his siblings, Elizabeth "Libby" Woolsey (Kyle) of White Plains, John McElligott (Tammie) of Berrien Springs, Kathlene Swicegood of North Carolina, Caroline and Katy; his former wife June Stepp of Crossville, Tennessee; and his close friends, Randy Ansel (Debbie), Mike Ansel (Lorna), Darryl Ansel (Cathy), Brett Ansel (Sandy), Brad Ansel (Jeannie), Dean Ansel (Tiffany), Tom Towne (Jane), Tim Towne (Carol), Randy Redmond (Karen Raymond) and Bubba Bezeau (Debi). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A reception will be held on Friday, January 16th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Merkle Funeral Service (14567 S Dixie Hwy, Monroe Charter Twp, MI 48161).
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Corporal John D. Cook Scholarship Fund at Paoli High School.
