He was predeceased by: his parents, Thurman Shelton and Jane Vinson; his stepfather William "Pete" Vinson; his parents-in-law, Mary O'Dowd Lapinski and Martin Kavanagh; his sisters-in-law, Pam Cervi and Mary Sharon Salois; his cousin Jonny Goodman; his aunts, Joan Shelton and Dorothy Wikan; and his uncle Walter.

He is survived by: his wife Reenie; his sons, Jon Shelton, Jr. (Catherine) and Brian Shelton (Sara); his grandchildren, Sophia and Maxwell Shelton; his siblings, David Vinson, Mike Shelton (Jojo), Lesley Vinson (Clemens Fobianke), Polly and Patty Shelton; and his cousins, Stephen Shelton (Lisa), Eddie Shelton (Greta) and Janice Goodman.
