He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Burkey and Hildegarde Burkey (Hoffman); his siblings, Norman Burkey and Elaine Ellison; and his great grandchild Amelia Ford.

He is survived by: his children, Kenneth "Sam" Burkey of Monroe, Kerry Burkey (Cheryl) of South Rockwood, Kellie Farmer (Dan) of Monroe, Karol Nagel (Charles) of Monroe, Kyna Kozbial (Michael) of Monroe, Ky McGrew (Paul) of Temperance and Katrina Duby (Earl) of Brownstown; and his siblings, Kathy Welter (Tom) of Rexburg, Idaho and Vince Burkey (Bonnie) of Monroe. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
