She was predeceased by: her parents, Melvin Funnell and Edna Funnell (Huber); her former husband Lawrence Robert "Bob" Schafer; her husband Rudolph "Rudy" Clyde Carter; her son Phillip Schafer; and her brother Melvin Funnell.
She is survived by: her children, Charlotte Lane (Mike) of Lockport, IL, David Schafer (Patti) of Beal City, Steve Schafer of Farwell, Sue Rexford (John) of Weidman, Mike Schafer (Charlene) of Beal City, Ron Schafer (Amy Smith) of Lake and Marty Schafer (Ann) of Mt. Pleasant; her stepchildren, Tom Carter (Barbara) of Bay City, Peggy Gilstad (Tom Wybranowski) of Midland and Connie Petrovich (Bob) of Ann Arbor; and her sisters, Betty Bouchey (Willis) of Clare, Lois Funnell of Florida and Carol Matthews of Weidman. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church (3401 E River Rd, Mt Pleasant, MI 48858). A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the St. Joseph Cemetery (2163 N Winn Rd, Mt Pleasant, MI 48858).
Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice House, Zion Lutheran Church, Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund, or Community Cancer Services.
