He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Rau and Albina Rau (Boge); his son Eric Lieby; his siblings, Rose Marie Funnell, Margaret Noble, Harold, Raymond, Stephen, Walter and Donald Rau; and his parents-in-law, Edna Rau, Gaye Rau, Sally Rau, Richard Funnell, Ted Brownlee, Ted Bordeleau, Caroline Cole (Warren), Helen Goffnett (Ivan), Idella Phillips (Thomas) and Echo Sliger (Joseph).
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Rau of Beal City; his children, Cynthia Griswold of Mt. Pleasant, Daniel Rau (Karen) of Mt. Pleasant and Louis Rau of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Jacob Griswold (Cari) of Hastings, Philip Lieby (Briana) of Riverdale, Olivia Rau of Grand Rapids, Jonathan Rau of Hartford, CT, Joseph Rau of Baltimore, MD and Erica Lieby of Mecosta; his great grandchildren, Ondreya, Desmond and Annalysa Griswold; his daughter-in-law Deb Lieby; his sisters, Mary Irene Zeien (Fred) of Beal City and Gert Brownlee of Sanford; and his sisters-in-law, Edna "Doll" Rau of Beal City, Eileen Rau of Mt. Pleasant and Sharon Bordeleau of Haslett. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
