He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Hovel and Catherine Van Hovel (Purpura). He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Cooke; his children, Cheryl Thomas (Edward) of Newberry, MI and Michael Van Hovel (Lisa) of Allen Park; his stepdaughters, Lori Cooke-Gearhart (Michael Gearhart) of Temperance, MI and Shelley Sitar (David) of Worthington, IN; his sister Charlene Hachey; and the mother of his children Mary Sue Plotzke of Armada, MI.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard F. Smith American Legion Post 29 in Jackson, MI.
