He was predeceased by: his parents, Napoleon Elijah and Emma Elijah (Wright); and his wife Mattie May. He is survived by: his close friend Alymnette Horton; and his stepdaughters, Rhonda Livers (Marcel), Vera Horton and Lela Herron (Roy). He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
