He is survived by: his children, Tiffany Schut (Matthew) of Cadillac, Stephanie Acre (Jason) of Mesick, William "Billy" Bates II (Amera) of Traverse City and Keegan Bates of Grand Rapids; his stepchildren, Eric Pritzl (Amanda) of Holton, Brandy Stevenson (Dennis) of Muskegon, Richard Baun (Jessie) of Muskegon and Ryan Baun (Sonya) of Gladstone; his grandchildren, Melina Bates, Alicia Rodriguez, Alexis Pearson, Madison Schut, Karson Schut, Zoey Acre, Sophia Acre, Kaiden Bates, Kaylen Bates, Kobe Bates, Kora Bates, Baby Bates, Tyler Pritzl, Tayven Pritzl, Elijah Stevenson, Jayden Stevenson, Braelyn Stevenson, Ayden Baun, Landon Baun, Riley Baun and Emily Baun; his close friend Vickie Bates; his siblings, Cathy Hall (Dave), Anna Bates, Kaylene Shattuck and Harold Bates (Shannon); and his sister-in-law Chris Bates. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and may other loving family and friends.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home (620 N Mitchell St, Cadillac, MI 49601).
