He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Hester and Lucy Hester (Richardson); his son James A. Hester; his brothers, John Hendrickson and James Hendrickson; and his aunt Florence Bartlett.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Hester of Naubinway, MI; his children, Connie Hussong (Gary) of Jonesboro, Charles E. Hester, Jr. (Kim Fisher) of New Castle, Cathy Pulley (Jay) of Marion and Lori Whiteman (Thomas Jr.) of Columbus, OH; his grandsons, Joseph Hussong (Mendy), Jon Hester, Jason Hester (Tiffany), Alex Pulley (Danielle), Zachary Whiteman, Keiffer Whiteman and Landon Whiteman; and his great grandchildren, Xander, Eve, Jason, Jayden and Rylan.
