We announce the death of Donald Laforest (Negaunee, Michigan), born in Ishpeming, Michigan, who passed away on September 1, 2026, at the age of 88. He was predeceased by: his son John Hummel; his grandson Drew Hartman; his parents-in-law, Elvira and Floyd Pomeroy; his siblings-in-law, Dennis Pomeroy (Jean), Donald Pomeroy (Suzanne), Charles Hansen and Judith Pomeroy; his nephew Gene Harrison; his nieces, Andrea and Melissa LaForest; and his close friends, Rick Shepley and Dennis Salmer.
He is survived by: his wife Sandra LaForest (Pomeroy); his daughter Leah Karki (Adam) of Ishpeming Township; his stepsons, John Hartman of Gladstone and Christopher Hartman (Tara) of Iron Mountain; his daughter-in-law Karen Hummel of Evansville, Indiana; his siblings, Francis LaForest (Ice Supannee) of Thailand and Lois McCartney (Dan) of Naples, Florida; his grandchildren, Matthew (Caitlyn), Sarah (Isaiah), Jackson, Grant, Katie, Harrison and Ford; his great grandchildren, Maddie, Cora, Olivia and Maya; and his siblings-in-law, Arlen Pomeroy, Winifred Budkis (Andrew), Susan Hansen and Virginia Thorsen (Larry). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Negaunee Cemetery.
