He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Leo and Florence Elizabeth Thomas (Esper); his grandson Jason Killian; and his siblings, Leola Carly, Shirley Lobbestael and Gerald Thomas.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia (Pether); his children, Bernard M. Thomas, Cynthia Killian (Michael), Brian Thomas (Tammy), Christine Carneal (Christopher) and Catherine Thomas; and his brother Richard Thomas (Ruth).
