He was predeceased by: his parents, Byrd Shelby and Pearl Shelby; his wife Marianne Woltman; his siblings, Johnney Mae Nelson and Bill Shelby; his daughter-in-law Roberta Shelby; and his close friend Ellen Spencer.

He is survived by: his son-in-law Chris; his children, Dianne Shelby of New Buffalo, Sheri Edwards (Craig) of Union Pier, Kathy Dohner (Chris) of New Buffalo, Kenneth Shelby, Jr. of Bergland, Michael Shelby (Patti) of Three Oaks and Tino Balle; and his grandchildren, Christy Jackson, Jerry Hoadley, Robert Hoadley, Samantha Hoadley, Scott Shelby (Stacy Julian), Allyson Tregillis (Jim), Dewey Morrison (Beth) and Kristen Dohner (Kyle). He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
