He was predeceased by : his parents, Annie Mae West and Fowler; his wife Lula Bell West; his children, Jason Thomas West, Mark West Sr. and Dianna Fultz; his siblings, Laura McDonald, Inobia "Sweet" Baker, Clark West, James West, Reverend Booker T. West and Arthur West; his granddaughter Nicole West; his great grandchild Robert Cole, Jr.; and his aunt Evelyn Coppage.

He is survived by : his children, Robert Allen Williams of South Bend, Deborah West of South Bend, Charlotte Ottbridge of South Bend, Craig West (Kathleen) of South Bend, John T. West, Jr. of South Bend, Shannon Jackson (Marcus) of South Bend, Tomeka Ford of Atlanta Georgia, Tonjohnique Coppage and Yvette West. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In keeping with John's passion for his family, he has requested that memorial donations be directed to an education fund for his granddaughter Jakayla Cleveland. Donations can be made to Brown Funeral Home, 521 East Main Street, Niles, MI 49120.
