He was predeceased by: his parents, John VanderWal and Pearl VanderWal (James); and his brother Kenneth VanderWal. He is survived by: his wife Val VanderWal; his children, Ben VanderWal (Barb), Carolyn VanderWal, Chris VanderWal (Season) and Barbara Blair (Brad); his grandchildren, Alex VanderWal (Alicia), Adam Jacobsen, Andrew Jacobsen, Paige Wagenmaker, Parker Aerts, Tessa VanderWal, Emma VanderWal, Brayden Blair, Bryce Blair and Bo Blair; his great grandchildren, Greyson, Remington, Abigail and Aria; his sister Beverly Balas (Thomas); and his siblings-in-law, Bill Walker (Jan) and Darlene Anderson (Bruce). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (6291 Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444). A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
