He was predeceased by: his parents, John Emch and Marcella Emch (Genaw); his stepmother Catherine Emch; his siblings, John Bell and Catherine Bruggeman; and his grandson Dylan Carter.

He is survived by: his wife Debra Ann Waters; his children, Douglas Emch, II, Shawn Emch (Theresa), Kimberly Carter (Michael), Michael Casper (Lisa) and Jennifer Thompson; his siblings, Donaldson Emch (Donna), Michael Emch (Janet), John Emch (Elley), Robert Emch, Joseph Emch (Cheryl) and Sharon Bell; his grandchildren, Garth Redmon, Cody Emch, Logan Carter, Joseph Carter, Rebecca Hunrath, Brianna Smith and Brooklyn Thompson; and his great grandchildren, Colt, Elsey and Memphis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
