He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Walters and Dorothy "Izzy" Walters (Saddler); his spouse Dealie Owens; and his siblings, Don, Dick, Ed and Peg.

He is survived by: his children, Robert Lee Walter of Otsego and Jessica Doornhaag (Dan) of Plainwell; and his siblings, Jim Walters and Bonnie Hummel. He is also survived by 9 stepchildren; 2 grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
