He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Smith and Margaret Smith (Worden). He is survived by: his wife Joanne Smith of John's Episcopal Church; his children, Stephen Smith (Cathy) and Sandra Carls (Kim); his grandchildren, Shelby Kysar (Chase) and Kyle Smith (Meagan); his great grandchild Carter Kysar; his siblings, Nancy Blackmer, Jay Wescoat (Brenda), Bob Wescoat (Jackie) and Jim Wescoat; his nephew Kevin Blackmer (Kim); his niece Melissa Foskett (Ron); and his pet Molly. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
