He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold W. Payne and Mildred M. Payne (Shelp); his brother Lyle Payne; and his son Thomas Robert Payne. He is survived by: his children, Debra Jean Cater of Traverse City, Penny Sue Amidon (Dennis) of Owosso, Timothy James Payne of Harrison, Kip, Karen McCoy, Lori, Le Hoang of Adrian, Denise Rowe of Sidney and Michele Griffus of Spring Lake; his great grandchild Emily Ernst; and his siblings, Helen Shepard of Henderson, Carol Gall, Chapin and Loretta Putney of Washington.
