He was predeceased by: his parents, Carnie Hammond and Martha "Rosie" Hammond (Cawvey); and his brother William "Bill" Hammond. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Brewer; his children, Sean Lee Hammond and Nicole Stewart (Matthew J.); his stepchildren, Tracy Nelson, Michelle Quake (Ben) and Michael Wyon (Michelle); his brother Carnie D. "Darr" Hammond (Sharon); his half-sister Jaquita Guffey; and his close friend Roger Jeter (Joanne).
