He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Kanan and Anna Kanan (Armaly); his former wife Anna J. Thomas; his daughter Ann Marie Haven; and his grandsons, Mark Taylor Jr. and Gary Kanan Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Lebanese; his children, Mary Ann Walser, Gregory L. Kanan (Debbie), Gary L. Kanan and Louis R. Kanan III; and his grandchildren, Matthew Kanan, Anthony Taylor, Erica Carto (Bryan), Jessica Brady (Ryan), Louis Richard Kanan IV (Meghan), David Kanan, Rachel Taylor, Emily Burmer (Pat), Sidney Kanan, Anna Marie Walser, Jason Boudro (Julie), Gregory Haven (Nicole) and Dennis Haven.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 8th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Nelson-House Funeral Home (120 E Mason St, Owosso, MI 48867). A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul Catholic Church (111 N Howell St, Owosso, MI 48867).
