He was predeceased by: his wife Judith Ann Sweeney (Terrien); his parents, Charles Sweeney and Florence Sweeney; and his siblings, Charles "Bill" Sweeney, Marie Reynolds, Gloria Thurber, Patrick Sweeney, Margaret Denis, June Spear, Doris Ann Pennala, Charlene Collins (Jack) and Don Sweeney.
He is survived by: his sons, Brian Sweeney and Kevin Sweeney (Janet); his grandchildren, Dominik and Jocelyn Sinke (Zach); and his siblings, Lee Ann Daly and Robert Sweeney (Joanne).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orion Veterans Memorial.
