He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilmer Laport Thurston and Roberta Thurston (Richner); his wife Charlotte Thurston (Guthaus); his siblings, Diane Ruth Thurston and Gary Thurston; and his great grandchildren, Aiden Giroux and Elizabeth Giroux.

He is survived by: his daughter Diane Giroux (Steve); his grandchildren, Kristin Cabaniss (Joe), Steven Giroux (Sarah) and Ryan Giroux (Stacy); his great grandchildren, Mary Burchard, Dean Giroux, Evelyn Giroux, Megan Giroux, Christopher Giroux, Gabriel Giroux, Andrew Giroux, Jonathan Cabaniss and Matthew Giroux; and his brother Brian Thurston of Oregon.
