Joann S Miley Obituary
Joann (Scott) Miley of Paw Paw, Michigan went to our Lord and her beloved late husband, John in her family home in the evening of Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 at 80 years old, held and surrounded by her loving family. She died after a long six-year battle with cancer of which she fought heroically, and was taken care of the whole way by her rocks, daughter Jessie Miley and grandson Tony Chaney, alongside her son Daryl McGill who visited her weekly for years.
Joann was born on December 31st, 1945 in the hollers of Sevierville, Tennessee to Charles and Edith (Oakley) Scott. Surrounded by The Great Smokey Mountains, she developed a love for animals, specifically butterflies, roosters, bears, and fish. She would later have home room with Dolly Parton, which her family always loved to bring up whenever they could. She carried that deep love for her home, the mountains, and their native animals wherever she went. Joann met her soulmate, John Miley, a decorated Navy veteran, in 1967 at the age of 22 when whey were introduced by her uncle Jimmy while John was on a short military leave. They were wed 30 days later. She lived in multiple places during John's tours, working diligently as a full-time mother, caring for her five children for sometimes months at a time before he retired and they made their home together in Paw Paw, Michigan where they would spend the rest of their lives. Joann and John enjoyed a happy 38- year marriage until his passing in 2005. She also served an integral role in raising her grandchildren. Joann's love for them and children in general would eventually lead to a career in childcare that lasted more than 20 years. A mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, spent her life giving everything she had to her family, amongst everyone else she encountered.
Joann spent a lot of her free time making arts and crafts, always sure to try to work in a butterfly or her favorite color purple. This would later inspire her grandchildren to follow in her footsteps. She and her daughter Jessie would also spend a lot of quality time together watching her favorite shows which included Survivor, Big Bang Theory, American Idol, and Cops.
Joann is survived by her children, Ron and Wanda Miley (Seymour, Tennessee), Daryl McGill (Kalamazoo), Suzanne Miley (Kalamazoo, Michigan), Jessie Miley (Paw Paw, Michigan), Mary Miley (Kalamazoo, MI), her grandchildren John and McKell Miley, Donavan Miley, Anthony Chaney, Kyra Williams, Kyron Williams, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of which she loved more than anything. She is also survived by 3 brothers.
Joann was preceded in death by both parents, Charles Scott and Edith (Oakley) Scott, her brother Junior Amyx, her sister Margaret Lawson, her uncle Jimmy, two nieces, and her beloved husband of which she was married to for 38 years until his passing in 2005. A private ceremony for Joann will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
