In accordance with his wish cremation will take place and Steven will be laid to rest privately at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, c/o the funeral home.
Age 77, of Paw Paw, MI, passed away at Centrica Rose Arbor Place on May 10, 2025. He was born in Plant City, FL, on February 10, 1948, the son of the late Walter and Sybil (Riggs) Gillespie. When he was a young boy, his family moved to Southwest Michigan and Steven graduated from Loy Norrix High School. After graduating high school, in 1966 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country with honor until being discharged in 1969. He returned to Michigan to begin working and start a family. Steve was a kind man who made friends easily. He enjoyed playing softball and was a member of many leagues. Spent many summer days working on his landscape around his home. When he wasn't doing this, he was reading the latest sci-fi novel. He remained forever proud of his service and was a member of the American Legion. Steven was also proud of his children and grandchildren, and he will be missed by those who loved him. He is survived by his loving daughter, Tonia (Scott) Coburn; son, Sean R. Gillespie; grandchildren, Kayla Case, Alexis (Blake) Mast, Abaigail Coburn, Jamie Coburn, Hannah Coburn, Dominic Faulkner and Gabriel Faulkner; a great-granddaughter, Emma Smith and one great-grandson soon arriving; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a sister, Sylvia Tucker and a nephew, John Altman.
