He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Hartson and Henrietta Hartson (Smith); his wife Dora Wormell; and his siblings, Frank Hartson, Mildred Voorheis, Harry Hartson, Zella Daniels, Marion Ferar, Harrietta Trosin and Dorothy Sherwood.
He is survived by: his sons, William Roger Hartson (Janet) of Petoskey and Richard Vaughn Hartson (Carrie) of Phoenix, Arizona; and his grandchildren, Callie Cavalcant (Andrew), Kayla Hartson, Sheila Hartson, Brenda Sommerfeldt (Bill), Amanda Vicente (Martin), Katie Hartson and Nicholas Hartson. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
