He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Ames and Martha Ames (Kinnee); his wife Lorma Hillock; his grandson Joshua Scramlin; and his brothers-in-law, Larry Hillock, Richard Hillock, Hartwell Hillock and John Hillock.

He is survived by: his children, Rodney Ames (Frances) of Walled Lake, Michigan and Cheri Scramlin (Stewart) of Hillman; his grandchildren, Brent Ames (Eva), Christy Ross (Alex), Michelin Scramlin and Erin Fletcher (Jared); his great grandchildren, Addison and Ava Fletcher; and his sisters-in-law, Carol O'Conner of Georgetown and Clara Hillock of Pickford.
