He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Gunden and Rachel Gunden (Albrecht); his son-in-law Jim Herford; and his siblings, Iva Swartzendruber, Glen Gunden, Clara Stalter, Delmar Gunden, Olin Gunden and Mike Sape.

He is survived by: his wife Ethel Hoffman; his children, Kim Herford, Todd Gunden and Troy Gunden (Shelly); his grandchildren, Brandon (Sherry), Tara (Jason), Justin (Sara), Jordon, Heather (Chris) and Evan (Sara); his great grandchildren, Kara (Caleb), Trisha (Jared), Isabella, Blake, Rhett, Jack and Emerie; his great great grandchildren, Harper, Dawson and Brynn; and his sister Lala King. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
