He was predeceased by: his parents, Benny Derk and Constance Derk; his siblings, Carol Burkland and Benny Derk, Jr.; and his granddaughter Cassandra Stapleton.
He is survived by: his wife Susan Derk; his children, JoLynn Derk and John-David Derk; his stepchildren, Rhonda Mitchell (Larry) and Robert Tufford (Melissa); and his granddaughter Kassandra Liggins. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
