Born on June 10, 1951, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Jerome and Julia (Markel) Reder, Joe's life was a testament to his strength, wisdom, and spirited nature.
Joe was a proud graduate of Bay City T.L. Handy High School, class of 1969, and soon after graduation, he bravely served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, Joe found both a career and a passion in working at Monitor Sugar while simultaneously dedicating himself to farming and raising livestock. His work ethic and dedication to his endeavors were evident to all who knew him.
On November 17, 1973, Joe married the love of his life, Karen Lee Brown, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bay City. Their union was blessed with a loving family, including their children Kathleen (Kurt) Kern, Joseph (Marlene Morris) Reder Jr., and James Scott (Hope Schalk) Reder. Joe was a guiding light in the lives of his grandchildren David, Jamie, Ashley, Breanna, Tiffany, Katelynn, Norma, Jacob, and Justin, and he cherished every moment he spent with his four great-grandchildren.
Joe's siblings, Janine (Bruce) Hair and Joyce (Jeff) Sage, remember him fondly, as he was a constant source of wisdom and support. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Reder Jr., and his sister, Julie Anna Tacey.
A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Joe's faith was an integral part of his life. He was not afraid to share his opinions and often did so with a thoughtful and wise perspective that was respected by many.
An avid hunter, Joe found peace and solace in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed engaging in family activities, where his spirited conversations and laughter were the heart of many gatherings.
