He was predeceased by : his parents, Jacob S. Shagene and Beatrice E. Shagene (Pike); and his siblings, Arnold, Gordon, Robert and Pauline Walker.

He is survived by : his former life partner Penny Carmichael-Shagene of Port Huron; his children, Brian Herrick, Kim Randall and Ruth Ann Herrrick; and his brother John Shagene. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
