He was predeceased by: his father Leo Sweeney; his daughter Barbara; his siblings, Lawrence (Margaret), Alex (Eleanor), Joseph (Joan) and Mary Ann Quain (Patrick); and his sisters-in-law, Margaret Metsker (Bernard) and Jean Cameron.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen; his children, Mary Jean Jackson (Larry), Teresa Sweeney, Joanna Durnbaugh (Jack), William Jr. (Kelly) and Matthew Sweeney (Laura); his son-in-law Mike Clem, Sr.; his grandchildren, Eve Jackson (Tonilyn), Shannon Jackson, Elena, Julia Durnbaugh, Vanessa, Sydney and Benjamin Sweeney; his stepgrandson Michael Clem II; his great grandchildren, Lillian and Violet Hilliker; Steve, Sue Dresser, Mark and Rita Prochazka. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He served on various Parish Commissions for over 35 years, was a Eucharistic Minister, a funeral acolyte, a devoted member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and he served at Mid-City Nutrition up until the Covid-19 pandemic.
