Elaine M. Rice age 83 of Portage passed away early Saturday morning, August 8, 2026. Elaine was born in Detroit, MI, on July 9, 1943, the daughter of William Arthur and Vera Louise (Gooley) Allen. She was married to Paul Gordon Rice who preceded her in death in 2018. Elaine was a Michigander at heart. She loved the lakeshore and doing anything on the lake. She liked anything nautical. Every year the family would vacation on the east side of the state on the St. Clair River. Following their retirement she and Paul talked about moving to Florida but they never got around to it. She enjoyed nature and loved making flower arrangements. She and Paul loved to go shopping and they were avid antiquers and sidewalk sale shoppers. They also liked going to classic car shows. She loved Elvis and other music as well. She always looked forward to the holidays and spending time with family. Elaine is survived by her daughter Pam Mercer; grandson, Lance Mejeur; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Allen; sister-in-law, Jill Hansen; several nieces and nephews; and many friends, including Bob Hope, Georgia Romanak, Sid and Deb. Besides her husband, Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Coral Lynn Rice, Juliene Burdette Rice; brothers, Bill, Doug and Larry Allen.
