He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Spruit and Louise Spruit; and his siblings, Joseph, Raymond, William, Frank, Thersea and Thomas.
He is survived by: his wife Mary; his daughters, Anne Fuess (Garth) of Northfield, Massachusetts, Kathryn McGoff (Rory) of Manchester, Michigan and Sarah Spruit of Reed City, Michigan; his grandchildren, Jacob, Leah, Noah, Nathaniel, Laura, Patrick, Mary, Anna, Izaiah and Elijah; and his siblings, Donald Spruit (Sandy), Robert Spruit (Marcia), Bernard Spruit, Dorothy Visner and Mary Spruit. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 9:30 AM at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1150 W Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49024). A rosary was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1150 W Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49024). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1150 W Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49024). The inurnment was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 at 11:00 AM at 1362 Leonard St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1150 W Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49024).
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions may make checks out to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, envelopes will be provided at the mass and/or through the funeral home .
