John Schmidt Sr. Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of John Schmidt Sr. of Riga, Michigan, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 3, 2026 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley Schmidt (LaRoy); his grandsons, Kevin John and Allan Paul DeShetler; and his great grandchild Eliza Jane Bunge. He is survived by: his children, Sue DeShetler (Ralph), Lue Schmidt, Jean Sieler (Vince Mezinko), Holly Bunge (Jeff), John, Jr. (Betty) and Peggy Papenhagen (Steve); his grandchildren, Jay, Mindy, Shelby, Amy, Jennifer, Cody, Jesse, Alex, Jed, Joel, Jack, Jim, Janie, Connor, Halie, Cheyanne, Chloe and Brock; his sister Mary Lue Bill; and his sisters-in-law, Pat LaRoy and Betty Ann LaRoy. He is also survived by 37 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Those wishing to give a memorial, in lieu of flowers, are asked to consider the FFA at either Whiteford Agricultural School or Blissfield School or a charity of the donor's choice.
