He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard C. Gmelin (Anne) and Eldein M. Doty (Bernard); his wife Marilyn Marie Gmelin; his siblings, Donald C. Gmelin, Linda A. Gmelin, Lana E. Gmelin and Aileen B. Yeaman; and his brother-in-law David E. Bennett.

He is survived by: his son Paul K. Gmelin of Milford; his grandchildren, Maxim P. Gmelin and Jakob K. Gmelin; his sister Susan E. Bennett; his siblings-in-law, Foster B. Gibbs (RaeAnn), Jean Gmelin and Beverly Jean Gibbs; and his pet Buster. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many other special relatives and friends.
