He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Gilbert and Maud Gilbert (Raby); his wife Donna Taylor; and his siblings, Joyce, Donna, Raymond, Clinton, John and James.
He is survived by: his children, Gregory Gilbert (Wendy), Sheryl McDonald (Terry), Michele Garrett (Ryan Foster), Deborah Bates (William), Darlene Jekel (David) and Douglas Gilbert (Melissa); his niece Maxine Larson (Bob English); his grandchildren, Aubrey Ciaramitaro (James), Hali Gilbert, Alexandra Browne (Caleb), Kaylee Dietz (Taylor), Brendan McDonald, Mallory Garrett (Angel Rodriguez), Justin Garrett, Ryan Bates (Trish), Lauren Giesige (Nate), Devan Jekel, Dalton Jekel, Connor Gilbert and Brenna Gilbert; his stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Sowders (Rodney), William Bates Jr. and Melissa Frank (J. D.); his great grandchildren, Charlotte, Tristan, Emmalynn, Nash, Isabel, Jaxxson and Gunner; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Taylor (Tyler Levins), Tyler Sowders, Kaleb Bates and Xavier Payne.
He was an honorary member of the Zilwaukee JC's and they honored him with the Distinguished Service Award for "outstanding community service, through loyal, faithful, and unselfish efforts resulting in lasting contribution to community and nation.".
