With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Helen Makara of Saint Johns, Michigan, born in Pinconning, Michigan, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 15, 2025 at the age of 92. She was predeceased by: her parents, Walter Gromaski and Ludvina Gromaski (Kessler); her husband George Makara; her siblings, Donald Gromaski, Dorothy Gromaski, Mary Nagy-Heinz, Ben Gromaski and Joanie Pierce; her mother-in-law Anna Schellhase; and her great grandchild Kiera Roof.
She is survived by: her children, Denise Roof (Tom), Renee Ferguson, David Makara, Teresa Thurlow (Jim), Yvonne Makara, Mike Makara and Pat Makara (Kim); her grandchildren, Ben Roof (Ellie), Rachelle Koenigsknecht (Greg), Tori Fernandez (Ross), Sheri Ferguson, Matthew Ferguson (Ashley), Josh Schwartz, Gayle Thurlow, Nick Thurlow (Jamie), Kristie Poff (Joe), Aubrey Makara (Nate Sipkovsky), Alec Makara (Katie Ramos), Lilly Katch (Ryan), Patrick Makara, Marinna Makara (Jacob Irrer) and Katherine "Kitty" Makara; her siblings, Lottie Wojda, Carol Bacca and Wally Gromaski, Jr.; her siblings-in-law, Bob Wilson and Carole Gromaski; her close friends, Catherine and Joe Lorio; and her caregivers, Lisa, Ashley, Kim, Grace, Ginger, Tarah, Carly, Rachelle, Marinna, Ellie, Kitty, Therese and Kristal. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
