He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Bernard McCarthy and Phyllis McCarthy; his wife Nancy; his mother-in-law Edna Austin; his sister-in-law Louanne Austin; his nephew Jason Austin (Sarah); his great-nephews, Julien and Silas Austin; his father-in-law Jessee W. Austin; and his brother-in-law Danny W. Austin.
Memorial contributions in Bernie's name may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
