She was predeceased by: her parents, Lyle Matheson and Shiela Matheson (Murphy); and her sisters, Maureen Anderson (Edward), Kathleen McGinn (Rex) and Eileen Hendrickson (Clarence).
She is survived by: her children, Pat Thompson (Sue) of Normal, Karleen Stephens (Scott) of Livingston, Montana, Linda Hula (Scott) of Rockford, Laurie Parker (Ross) of Knoxville and Kristie Mickelson (Doug) of Manistique; the father of her children Patrick Thompson; her grandchildren, Jamie Mankiewicz (Jeff), Alex Thompson, Jenna Thompson, Melissa Wolf (Nathan), Becky Spears (Matt), Tyler Stephens (Lauren Chaisson), Kelly Shorter (Ty), Katelin Hagedorn (Jeremy), Trent Parker (Chelsea), Josh Mickelson (Emily), Gunnar Mickelson (Angie Carley) and McKenzie Mickelson (Corey Gonyea); her great grandchildren, Jack Hampton, Liam Hampton, Parker Mankiewicz, Leo Wolf, Dylan Wolf, Laney Shorter, Gus Shorter, Teddy Hagedorn, Frankie Hagedorn, Hudson Parker, Ella Mickelson, Austin Mickelson, Alix Mickelson, Myla Mickelson, Avalyn Benda and Duncan Gonyea; and her daughter-in-law Lori Thompson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Family Life Funeral Homes - Sault Ste (4951 M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783). A celebration of life was held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the MELAS Foundation for Avalyn Mae Benda.
