He is survived by: his wife Joyce Patton; his children, Rick Patton (Marilyn Hafner) of Knoxville, Dave Patton (Tracey) of Temperance, Michigan and Laura Patton of Temperance, Michigan; his sister Ellen Hubbard of Temperance, Michigan; his grandchildren, Kim Askam and Jessica Askam; and his great grandchildren, James Askam, Alexandria Askam and Jaclyn Thomas.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Friends of Seney National Wildlife Refuge, in honor of James's love of the refuge and the natural world.
