He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Linus and Nettie Claypool (Ames); his wife Doris Potter Trim; his children, Richard, Ralph Claypool and Darlene Dawson; and his siblings, Stella Danielson, John Claypool, Ruth Johnson and Nettie Claypool.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Trim (Carol) of Grand Rapids, William Trim (Judy) of Ludington, Dr. Lori Claypool and Penny Deming (Bill) of Fenton; and his children-in-law, Debbie Claypool of Shelby Twp and Jeff Dawson of St. John's. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
