He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Lou Lyon; his significant other Mary Lou Kniffen; and his parents, Rendel Kniffen and Gladys Brickner. He is survived by: his daughters, Tracy Kniffen-Oates (Jeff) and Sally Kniffen (Jim Ramon); his grandchildren, Mike Brown, Nichole (Brown), Ninowski (Dave), Tyler Oates (Alexandria) and Chelsea (Oates); his great grandchildren, Jordan Ninowski, Olivia Oates, Emory Oates, Scarlet Popplewell, Jackson Popplewell and Ellie Popplewell; and his siblings, Hugh Kniffen, Francis, Brickner, Jean Munson (Bilow) and Ann Brooks.
Visitation was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 at 10:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Shepherd United Methodist Church (107 W Wright Ave, Shepherd, MI 48883).
