Barbara Elizabeth Benchley Obituary

Barbara Elizabeth Benchley, known lovingly as Barb, passed away on August 31, 2026, at her home with her loving family by her side.

Barb was born on August 1, 1931, in Clare, Michigan, to the late Paul and Rose (Walters) Nass. She grew up with the values of hard work, faith, and family that would remain at the center of her life for all of her years. Those who knew Barb will remember her as a loving, passionate, and faith-filled woman whose presence brought warmth and comfort to those around her.

On September 24, 1949, she married the love of her life, Donald, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clare, Michigan. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 71 devoted years of marriage until Donald's passing on September 27, 2020. Their marriage was a true partnership marked by steadfast love, mutual respect, and a deep commitment to their family. Barb cherished the life they created together and carried the memory of their years side by side with great love.

Barb is survived by her children, Donald and Kathryne Benchley, Robert Benchley and Cindy Koth, Patti and William Cardinal, and Terry and Linda Benchley. She also leaves behind 12 adored grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, as well as one more great-grandchild on the way. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She found happiness in the everyday blessings of family gatherings, shared stories, and the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Barb was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and faithfully taught Sunday School for numerous years. Her church was an important part of her life, and she loved her church family deeply. She had a great passion for serving the Lord and lived her faith in a quiet, steady, and sincere way. Her devotion to her church and her willingness to share her faith with others were meaningful parts of her life and left a lasting impression on those around her.

In her free time, Barb enjoyed reading, visiting with neighbors and relatives, and spending time with the people she loved most. She especially cherished the time she shared with her family, and nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by her adored grandchildren. Her home and her heart were always open, and her gentle spirit made others feel welcome and cared for.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11 am from St. Bartholomew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kawkawlin, Michigan with Rev. Larry Seafert officiating with burial to follow in Sterling Township Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home-STANDISH Chapel on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 2 to 8 pm.
