Douglas Robert Steele Obituary

Douglas "Doug" Steele ObituaryDouglas "Doug" Steele, age 67, passed away peacefully the evening of July 16th leaving behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Connie Steele, whose partnership and love were the foundation of their family. He was a proud and devoted father to Tony (Amber) Steele, Tanya (Grant) Lynch, and Kelly (Zach) Harris. Nothing brought him greater joy than watching his family grow, and he cherished every moment with his six grandchildren: Aiden, Eva, Ashton, Jack, Riggs, and Nash. Doug loved watching them play sports, they were the light of his life, and he took great pride in each of them.

He is also survived by his brother, Delbert Steele; his mother-in-law, Charline Gremel; his brothers-in-law, Steve (Patti) Gremel and Jim (Cindy) Gremel; his sister-in-law, Sandy Olson; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends.

Doug was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Robert and Ruby Steele; his sister, Debra Ott; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Carol Leoffler.

Doug will be remembered as a man who was always there when someone needed him. Whether it was family, friends, or neighbors he had a way of making people feel cared for and supported. He quietly took it upon himself to look after others, offering whatever he could without ever expecting anything in return. His children knew they could always count on him, and that unwavering love and support became one of the greatest gifts he gave his family.

Throughout his life, Doug earned the respect of everyone who knew him. Doug loved agriculture, he was a successful businessman in the dry edible bean industry and a farmer. He proudly served his community as a firefighter for the Sterling Area Fire Department for 15 years, answering the call to help others during their times of greatest need.

While Doug worked hard, he also knew how to enjoy life. He loved spending time on the golf course whenever he had the opportunity. Just as much as the game itself, he enjoyed the friendships that came with it. Doug enjoyed the outdoors, both hunting and fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed a good drink, whether gathered in the "north side" garage, sharing stories around a table, or after a round of golf.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Doug's legacy lives on through his family, the friendships he built, the community he served, and the countless lives he made better simply by being a part of them.

He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 21, 2026, at 11:00 from the Beacon of Light Methodist Church Standish Michigan with Pastor Russ Porier presiding with burial at Sims Whitney Cemetery.
